Hey everyone its Megan with Three Little Moonbeams!

If your kids are anything like mine, they are forever putting their mama made clothes on backwards. I tried to show them to look for the neckband seam but it probably would have been easier to teach my cat how to do the moonwalk.  Ha… can you imagine?! A moonwalking cat… that would be hilarious!

I mean… really 🤣

Anyways, what was I talking about? Oh that’s right, my children’s inability to properly dress themselves. For the record, my independent dressers are 7 and 11, so well within the age range for being able to put their clothes on correctly.  I’ll give the 2 year old a pass on this one. At any rate, after many months of backwards clothing (which, in retrospect, may have been a conscious choice for my 11 year old… he’s always had a very interesting flair for fashion), I was cruising Facebook and happened upon a picture that caught my eye.  While the outfit was super cute, I was intrigued by the stamped label that the sewist had used to mark the shirt.

"Enter PaperSushi and their incredible line of clothing stamps!"

Enter PaperSushi and their incredible line of clothing stamps! While I now sew to sell and have a variety of their products, PaperSushi’s stamps are perfect for all makers.  They have ready to purchase stamps like this adorable mini “handmade” stamp or if your kids are anything like mine, this hilariously to the point “this is the back” stamp. If you happen to have a small clothing shop, their compliance stamps are second to none!

A Few Favorite Stamps

The one stamp, or set of stamps actually, that everyone definitely needs are the sizing stamps.  I started out using the generic sizing stamp because it was more cost effective but if you’re able to afford the sets, I highly recommend them! I find them to be more fool proof and provide me with flawless prints every time! Like I mentioned, they are a bit more of an investment but one lucky commenter on this blog post will win a $50 credit to PaperSushi, so why not start off with the best?! I’ve linked a few below for you but there are more. Just use the search function to pull them up.

Let's Talk Ink!

Ok great! Now you’ve picked out the stamp(s) you want but what next? Ink! A good ink is incredibly important in how your stamp will look and last.   VersaCraft is usually the first brand recommended, and for good reason. It’s a pigment ink that’s formulated for fabric and other surfaces. I’ve found that it tends to give better results when used on natural fibers but is an overall great versatile ink!  My new personal favorite however, is Momento Luxe. Like VersaCraft, it’s a pigment ink formulated for many surfaces including fabric. It is a great ink for bold imprints, and is available in lots of awesome colors. I’m currently using the Nautical Blue for my lighter fabrics with no issues with the ink bleeding through. Another feature that I love, is that both brands sell ink refills so that you don’t have to purchase a new stamp pad each time it gets dry. Just pour some new ink on and you’re good to go. It’s less cost and waste, so definitely a win in my book.

More of that Momento Luxe Nautical Blue 💙 Anyone recognize that fabric?!

Oops!

Not Enough Ink!

Not Enough Ink:  Here is a VersaCraft Black where I didn’t saturate the stamp with enough ink.  It’s important to get enough ink on your stamp without getting it all over the edges.  This can be accomplished by tapping the stamp on the pad as opposed to pressing down.  When you place the stamp on your item of clothing, press down firmly, being mindful to not rock the stamp back and forth.

Every which way!

Also, here’s your reminder to double check that your stamps are turned the right direction before you press them down. 🙈 Luckily for me, before heat setting, these inks are generally able to be washed out with a bit of dish soap! This may have been the first time, but certainly won’t be the last. 🤣

Ok! That’s the end! Have I convinced you that you need to start stamping your makes? What sort of stamp would you want to get first? Leave a comment letting me know and you’ll be entered to win that $50 store credit to PaperSushi!  We’ll choose a winner on 8/4/22!

Good luck and happy stamping, friends! ~Megan

I love Paper Sushi. I have their sizing stamp and can’t figure out how to use it! Ugh. I really need to invest in their conformance stamps. What do you mean by heat setting?

    1. Megan July 16, 2022

To set the ink on your garment, you’ll want to put your iron to the settings for your type of fabric and then place the iron over the stamped part of your garment. Let it sit for 10-15 seconds (be sure to check that your iron isn’t too hot and damaging the fabric though! I do that about 2-3 times and then it doesn’t wash out when you launder your clothes! It does lighten a bit as it goes through washes but if it’s set correctly, will stay on through all of the wash and wears.

  2. Stephanie July 16, 2022

Love the stamps. Seems like a very eco friendly alternative so long as the ink is ocean friendly!

    1. Megan July 16, 2022

      I do believe they are!

  3. Elena Bottles July 16, 2022

Love Paper Sushi! I’ve only ordered from them once and definitely need the sizing ones.

    1. Megan July 16, 2022

You definitely do! They make life so much easier!

  4. Stephanie E. July 16, 2022

I’ve been eyeing Papi Sushi stuff for a while, and these all look amazing! I appreciate all your tips, too! I’m hoping to get a logo stamp and sizing stamps. And probably wash & care ones, and a library one, and…. 😉

  5. Shyanna Sorensen July 16, 2022

I could definitely use the sizing stamps. I’m forever trying to remember what size the clothes I made my kids are.

    1. Megan July 17, 2022

Yes! When I first starting sewing clothes, I would just try to remember based on the fabric I used but as I started sewing more and more, I’d always forget 🙈 The stamps make my life way easier!

  6. Rebecca Zeeman July 16, 2022

I really need a kids sizing stamp! I have VersaCraft ink pad, and just some cute stamps so I can mark the back of garments. But these girls grow so fast! It would be nice to mark a size on things rather than me just trying to remember with mom-brain. 🥴

    1. Megan July 17, 2022

Oh the mom brain 🤣 We have so many other important things floating around in there that it can’t be bothered to remember what sizes we’ve sewn! Get the stamps! Make your life easier! Also, use this code and save yourself 10% 🙂

I love stamps! I would love some with sizing but also the washing instructions are genius.

    1. Megan July 17, 2022

      They’ve definitely saved me a time or two… or well… who’s really counting? 🤣

  8. Chelsey Comer July 16, 2022

This post is really helpful! I have a stamp, but I haven’t used it yet. I’ve been kind of intimidated. I need to order a stamp pad and size stamps. I really love the Nautical Blue color. I haven’t heard of the Momento Luxe brand and am off to look! My mom was really into rubber stamps in the 90’s and we always rocked back and forth with stamping. I think you may have saved me some headache. Haha. Thank you!

    1. Megan July 17, 2022

The blue really is pretty! It was hard to break the rocking habit, for sure! The PaperSushi blog has some great tutorials when you’re ready to take the plunge!

  9. Summer Heaton July 16, 2022

Looks amazing! Definitely my favorite way to mark the sizes!

    1. Megan July 17, 2022

For me, it’s definitely easier than sewing tags in! Plus I love that it’s inclusive for people with sensory issues!

  10. Wanda lawrence July 16, 2022

This article was very interesting! My grands pass down their clothes. But years later we were confused on some sizes. These stamps will be a great help! Thank you for sharing!

  11. Cynthia Dushek July 16, 2022

This is exactly what I need but for my hubby and adult daughter!

    1. Megan July 19, 2022

Haha! We could all use a little help sometimes!

  12. Laura Carter July 16, 2022

Your clothing looks perfectly stamped!! What are your tips? I would love to get some sizing stamps and that Momento Luxe Nautical Blue ink!

    1. Megan July 19, 2022

Thanks! I think the biggest tips are to be sure to get enough ink on the stamp without getting it on the edges, be sure to stamp your item on a really hard flat surface and press down firmly and evenly!

  13. Amanda Johnson July 16, 2022

I love this! Even my 9 year old consistently puts her dress on backwards. You would think she might get it right 50% of the time, by the law of averages, but nope! She’s lucky if it’s ever right! I would love a stamp for each of the sizes. One question what do you do for dark colored fabric? Is there an ink that will show up?

    1. Megan July 19, 2022

One would think, right?! 🤣 There is a white ink that I use for darker fabrics. I’ve only tried the VersaCraft and it does a good job but someday soon, I’d like to try some of the lighter Momento Luce colors.

  14. Natalie Almy July 16, 2022

Great information! I’d need to start from the beginning with a stamp with all the info and then childrens sizes! I really need to take the plunge and get a stall so it would be awesome to win this!

    1. Megan July 19, 2022

Good luck! I seriously love mine!

  15. Mandolin Smith July 16, 2022

I love paper sushi stamps! It’s a great way to add a more professional look to clothes

    1. Megan July 19, 2022

      They definitely do!

  16. Pamela Hay July 16, 2022

I definitely need the “this is back” stamp!

    1. Megan July 18, 2022

I love that one… makes me giggle every time I see it! 🤣

  17. Theresa J July 16, 2022

Oh I would love a logo stamp. That would be awesome!

  18. Melanie July 16, 2022

Thank you for all the helpful information here. I’ve been meaning to look into stamps for several reasons, mainly to help sort the right tee to the right kiddo but also because like yours, mine tend to put their mummy made shirts on backwards without a tag. I have purchased a few tags to pop in the back of shirts but I either can’t find them in my messy sewing space or forget to use them, plus tags are annoying anyway! Thank you for the inspiration and the beautiful pictures to aspire to replicate.

  19. Emily CHEN July 16, 2022

    Love these stamps!!!

  20. Daisy July 16, 2022

Yes, I recently started looking into labeling my clothes so your article was really helpful. I hadnt even thought about fabric appropriate ink yet lol. I probably would want to start off with adult sizing stamp and go from there.

  21. Amanda Sullivan July 16, 2022

I have been looking at the website for awhile. I’ve been through a lot in the past year (cancer and cancer treatments) so haven’t been sewing as much as I used to and couldn’t really afford to get any stamps/ink. I would love to get a simple stamp for sizes and to show which is the back (my six year old gets frustrated when she can’t tell which is front vs back)

  22. Elizabeth July 16, 2022

I’ve just got junk stamps and ink for my kids. It works but its not love.

  23. Iris July 17, 2022

Ooooh this sounds great. I couldn’t find good stamps so I bought just numbers and it just always comes out crooked. I looove the big one, where you can also put your logo on so no more tags for the sensory issue kids. I would live to win the store credit to buy the big one and customize it 🙂

  24. Angela H. July 17, 2022

The sizing stamp would be awesome! I currently use individual numbers, and it is a pain getting them to line up.

  25. EW July 19, 2022

I would definitely use the kids sizing stamps and probably a “this is the back” one too!

  26. MaLia Tolleson August 2, 2022

I would love a logo clothing stamp! This is so neat
